Get to Know George

George Hemingway is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Wright State University and a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Capital University. With 26 years of experience in the behavioral health field, George specializes in mental health and substance use counseling, primarily working with adults. His deep expertise includes anger management, impulse control, anxiety, depression, trauma, and dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

George takes a flexible, client-centered approach, pulling from various therapeutic modalities to meet each client’s unique needs. Known for his down-to-earth style, he creates a judgment-free environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. His honesty and warmth make him easy to talk to, fostering trust and openness in the therapeutic relationship.

Inspired by his early upbringing in a Catholic school and the value of service instilled in him as a child, George pursued a career in counseling. He views his work as a privilege, taking pride in making a positive impact on his clients’ lives. George excels at connecting with people of all ages, particularly younger and older adults who are navigating life’s challenges and seeking to understand themselves better.

Outside of work, George enjoys spending time with his beloved malti-poo, Lucy, and exploring his family’s possible connection to the famous writer Ernest Hemingway. He’s passionate about sports, proudly supporting FC Cincinnati as a member of the Norden supporters’ group, and is a novice guitarist. In his spare time, George keeps up with the latest research on happiness, coping skills, and the links between substance abuse and mental health. His well-rounded interests and relatable personality allow him to connect with clients on multiple levels, providing both support and inspiration.
