Katie Allison, Counselor Trainee, builds a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients by incorporating activities they like to do and interests they have. She has her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Cincinnati, she has a Bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Psychology and Intercultural Studies. Katie works with all age groups and backgrounds but may be the best resource for someone with anxiety, depression, OCD, and other phase of life issues. Her experience as a case manager for Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services where she specialized in obtaining housing for the homeless and persistently mentally ill. This role has given her familiarity with individuals who have psychological conditions ranging from depression to schizophrenia.

Having her own positive experience with counseling as a teenager, Katie knew she wanted a career that would incorporate helping others in a similar way. The Covid-19 pandemic deepened her drive to become a counselor noticing a profound need for advocates of mental health and professional counselors as the world faced a crisis that it hadn’t seen in the modern era.

Katie enjoys spending time with her mini Goldendoodle, Noelle, who is also training to become a therapist (dog). She enjoys learning about historical occurrences and watches documentaries that speak to her inner history buff. Katie also likes going for walks in nature, watching Chicago Med, playing board games, and playing Minecraft or Multiverse on her Xbox.

Part of Katie’s approach to therapy for clients is utilizing Person-Centered Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to create an environment of problem-solving. Katie also likes to build on clients’ personal interests, which may include playing board games, building with LEGOs, drawing, or making slime which is a favorite of her adolescent clients.
