Get to Know Tommie

Tommie has a love and passion for her family that includes four children, her husband and two dogs, it is no wonder why she specializes in Family and Marriage Therapy at Foundations Counseling. She is currently concluding her Master’s Degree at Capella University and plans to be finished by December of 2022. She also holds a BLA in Psychology from Xavier University. Tommie has interned with Foundations Counseling in 2022, and has completed two residencies at Capella University. She has also served as a case worker for over seven years for Elderly Care Services. Through practices like Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy, along with mindfulness, and person-centered techniques, Tommie matches well with married couples, families, and teenagers who may struggle with depression, anxiety, and communication. Over her career, Tommie has helped teens, individuals and couples adjust to challenging circumstances as they walk through life, helping them remain resilient and uncover their own strengths to work through difficult situations.

Tommie is a proud Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoys watching sports and spending the majority of her time connecting with her family. Being a wife, mother, cousin, niece, and friend are some of her favorite roles that she finds most fulfilling. Being an avid journal-writer, Tommie takes time to write down her thoughts and shares her feelings not only on paper but through time spent in a spiritual mindset.

With lost feelings of self-worth at one point in time, Tommie appreciates and is forever grateful for a therapists who came into her life to assist her in redirecting her path in life and discover she is in control of her own life. Tommie shares how she was reminded that despite life’s circumstances she was the only one who could change the trajectory of her life. Having gone through this process with another individual who could see her as a person from the outside, Tommie understand the importance of validating individual’s thoughts, feelings and emotions all while holding them accountable, just as her own therapist did for her.

Tommie enjoys reading a mix of fiction and self-improvement books and enjoys being outdoors. She enjoys serving her community, and hopes as a therapists she can be the hero in someone else’s life the same way her own therapist was in hers.
